A few years ago the Internet was paralleled to a huge library where you open a search engine to research and get information. But today, Web 2.0 has stormed the net and works just like search engines do in providing information. These interactive and dynamic sites operate as a social network too.

Web 2.0 is a lot more personalized compared to the usual search engine. Why? Because other people can recommend certain information in Web 2.0 sites.

Examples of these Web 2.0 sites are Del.icio.us, Digg, and Furl among many others.  These social bookmarking sites let users share their activities, personal life, favorites and anything else under the sun.  If user likes a certain website they can bookmark and tag it to other members of the site with specific keywords.

Alternate search engine

Usually, Web 2.0 sites make good search engines too. It works with the use of search tags that will pull out related sites to that specific keyword or tag. It is more on human referrals or votes for Web 2.0.

Technorati.com is another example of a social networking site. It holds a huge list of blogs depending on the amount of incoming links it has. It also indexes tags relevant to any bloggers post.

MySpace is one of the most popular social networks. It gathers about 20 million users per month, and still counting.  Of course, there is Facebook and Twitter that never goes behind. In fact, most businesses are penetrating these social networking sites as a marketing strategy.

If you are more inclined with video and audio, there is the world-renowned YouTube and BlogTalk Radio. Filmakers, photographers and broadcasters can share their insights into the world for everybody to grasp it.
